Story
In the year 20XX, a UFO lands near Megalo City. A team is sent to investigate the crash site but find nothing. A year later, the Mayor of Megalo City decides to hold a contest to decide the strongest fighter on Earth.
Gameplay
The game is a versus fighting game resembling Street Fighter II. Two fighters square off in a small arena, each trying to drain the vitality of the other using punches, kicks, and special moves. Each match is fought to the best of three rounds, and each round has a time limit of 99 seconds (with the round going to the fighter with the most vitality left if time runs out). The main mode is a single-player game where the player chooses from four characters and fights every character in a randomized order, ending with a fight against the boss, the Alien. An area map is shown before each match with some dialogue from the selected fighter. The game ends if the player loses a match but can be continued a limited number of times. There are three difficulty levels for computer-controlled opponents (Easy, Normal, and Hard). There is also a two-player mode where players can choose from the same four characters (and can choose the same character) and fight each other (using a Gear-to-Gear Cable for the Game Gear version).

Stages
Bonus stage
In the single-player game, the player plays a bonus stage after the first two matches. In it, the fighter must destroy a forklift within a time limit to earn bonus points. Additional points are awarded for having more time remaining after destroying the forklift.
