The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends is an action game based on the Rocky and Bullwinkle animated television series. It was released for the Sega Mega Drive exclusively in North America.

Story

A Rocky & Bullwinkle Museum has been opened in downtown Frostbite Falls, filled with rare treasures collected by Rocky and Bullwinkle in their travels. However, during the opening, the "no-goodniks" Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, disguised as security guards, steal three of the exhibits. Now Rocky and Bullwinkle must embark on an adventure to get them back.

Options

The game is a side-scrolling platforming game in which the flying squirrel Rocky and the moose Bullwinkle must find three treasures that have been stolen from their museum. The levels are divided into three parts, one for each item. The first two parts are played as Bullwinkle, and the last part is played as Rocky. The goal of each level is to make it to the end, and there is a boss fight at the end of each part to acquire the treasure. The dastardly Pottsylvanian spies Boris and Natasha occasionally appear to harass Rocky and Bullwinkle. Besides the main game, there are two mini-games that the player can play to earn extra lives.

Rocky and Bullwinkle move with Left or Right. They duck with Down and jump with A. They can throw mooseberries (for Bullwinkle) or acorns (for Rocky) at enemies with B. These projectile attacks are effective against most enemies, but they are limited in supply. More ammunition can be found in the levels. Bullwinkle can use his antlers to headbutt with C, and Rocky can spin around and attack with his tail with C. These melee attacks are mostly used against ground-based enemies that are too small to be hit by projectiles (such as rats).

Each character has five daisies representing their health and lose a daisy when they are hurt. They lose a life when they run out of daisies and restart the level from a predetermined checkpoint if they have extra lives left. Otherwise, the game ends. Falling down bottomless pits also costs a life.

Dungeons of Pottsylvania
Two of the sections require flipping a switch to reveal a hidden passageway behind a bookshelf, then Rocky can enter with Up when standing in front.

In the final section, Rocky must rescue Bullwinkle from his cage. The pin holding the cage onto the chain breaks lose over time, and Rocky can throw acorns at it to keep it from coming out (and dropping Bullwinkle into the vat). The executioner is invulnerable, and throwing acorns at him only stuns him momentarily. When Bullwinkle's cage has dropped low enough, Rocky can jump to the platform on the other side and throw acorns at it to break the lock and free Bullwinkle.

Completing this level recovers the

Kirwood Derby.

Mini-games

Before every part, the player is presented with the options screen and can choose to play a mini-game before playing the next level for a chance at a bonus. Each mini-game can be attempted up to 3 times if failed. The next level starts if the player wins a mini-game.

Rocky and Bullwinkle MD, Bonus Stages, Sherman and Mr Peabody.png

Sherman and Mr. Peabody's Mini-game
Mr. Peabody is riding a medieval dragon and breathing fire down below, and Sherman must dodge the fire. Sherman can catch the bubble gum dropped by Mr. Peabody, which lets him blow bubbles that float upward. If a bubble floats into the dragon's mouth while it is open, the dragon's mouth is clogged with gum momentarily. If Sherman does this three times, the player earns an extra life. If Sherman is hit five times by dragon fire, the mini-game ends with no bonus.

Sherman moves with Left and Right. He jumps with A and blows a bubble with B. He can only blow one bubble for each bubble gum packet collected.

Rocky and Bullwinkle MD, Bonus Stages, Dudley Do-Right.png

Dudley Do-Right's Mini-game
The Mountie Dudley Do-Right is riding a horse and being chased by the sinister Snidely Whiplash in a locomotive. He must dodge obstacles, such as tree branches or gaps in the track, while avoiding the train. Hitting an obstacle slows him down and moves him closer to the train, and the mini-game is lost if Dudley is hit by the train. If he makes it to the end of the track, he rescues the damsel-in-distress Nell Fenwick and the player earns an extra life.

Dudley slows down with Left or speeds up with Right. He ducks with Down and jumps with A, B, or C.
