START START . You can now set how many lives you have and select a stage.
Test mode
Highlight "Start" from the main menu then press HOLD 
++ START .
This is a graphics viewer, in which cycles through palettes, changes graphics banks and (with the d-pad controls) loads in the graphics for each round.
