The 1996-08-19 build of Virtua Fighter 2 is a prototype build of Virtua Fighter 2 for the Sega Mega Drive. It was released by drx during the February 23rd, 2008 proto release.
This is a relatively complete prototype in that all game modes exist and the arcade mode can be played from beginning to end, however some backgrounds are missing, only Akira's theme song plays during gameplay and Pai has yet to be implemented (instead loading a copy of Akira). It is also missing introduction, ending and name entry screens.
The prototype uses the "Genesis" title screen in all regions, except for when you lose or return to the title screen, when it reverts to "Mega Drive".
