Bram Stoker's Dracula is a Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System action platform game developed by Probe Software and published by Sony Imagesoft. It is based on the 1992 horror film Bram Stoker's Dracula. The handheld version was released in Europe and the United States in mid to late 1993, with an eventual Australian release some time later. The home version was published exclusively in Europe sometime in 1993.

Story

Dracula has cast a curse on Mina Murray. Jonathan Harker must journey to Castle Dracula and drive a stake through the heart of its vampire lord to save her from an eternal fate as a vampiress.

Gameplay

Van Helsing

This game is a side-scrolling platformer played as the English solicitor Jonathan Harker on a quest to slay Dracula. The goal of each level is to make it to the end. Every level is split into two parts, a daytime part and a nighttime part. The daytime part always has Van Helsing in a hidden room with bonus items, and the nighttime part ends with a fight against Dracula in various forms. The Bride is also sometimes encountered during the nighttime part; she cannot be defeated but must be avoided until she leaves.

Harker walks with Left and Right and crouches with Down. He jumps with 2 and jumps off platforms with Down+2. He does a ground stomp by pressing Down in midair, which lets him break through the floor in some places. He attacks with 1. He initially carries a dagger, which can be used an unlimited number of times, but he can find items that give him a ranged weapon for a limited number of uses (though he continues to use the dagger in close range).

He has three health bars and loses half of a bar whenever he takes damage from an enemy or a hazard (including water). He loses a life if he loses all of his health bars or falls down a bottomless pit or if the level timer runs out. The game ends if he loses all of his lives, but it can be continued a limited number of times. There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard), but the whole game can only be played when playing on Hard mode.
