PAGENAME (known often as just The Lost Vikings II or Norse by Norsewest: The return of The Lost Vikings) is the sequel to The Lost Vikings, published by Interplay for a variety of platforms including the Sega Saturn.

Story
 +
Following their escape from the evil alien Tomator in the previous game, Erik, Baleog and Olaf returned to their Viking lives. One day, while on a fishing trip, the three Vikings are suddenly abducted from their ship by Tomator. However, due to a power failure, the lights go out, and the Vikings mug the robot guard, dismantling it and taking some of its high-tech equipment for themselves. While figuring a way back to their ship, Olaf pulls a lever on a time machine, reading the "Do not touch" sign as "Donuts", getting the Vikings lost in time again. Once again, it is up to the player(s) to guide all three Vikings through various periods in time to find the time machine and return the Vikings to their time.
 +

 +
Gameplay
 +
Gameplay is much the same as the previous title, however each of the Vikings now have some new moves thanks to parts obtained from a robot during the introduction. The player(s) takes it in turn to control each Viking, whose special skills must be used to ensure the others' safety. Levels typically have the Vikings collect a certain amount of items, which is then given to a character at the end of the stage in the hopes of being teleported to the time machine. The last level of each time period has the Vikings look for parts to the time machine to hopefully return to the Vikings' ship.
 +

 +
Introduced in Lost Vikings 2 are two new characters, Fang the Werewolf and Scorch the Dragon, each with their own new skills. However, only three characters are controlled at a time per level, and so characters are swapped out in a rotation per level (e.g. Erik will be swapped out to accommodate Fang or Scorch). All three characters must survive, otherwise the player(s) must retry the level from the beginning.

 +
*Jumping: Press B to make Erik jump. While in the air, press B again to activate his rocket boots for a double jump that can also break weak ceilings.
 +
*Headbutt: Press C while running to make Erik perform a rocket-propelled headbutt, inflicting damage to enemies and breaking down certain walls. The recoil will leave him unable to move for a few seconds, making him vulnerable to danger.
 +
*Swimming: Erik is the only character who can swim in water, thanks to his helmet. While in water, press B to make Erik swim in the direction he is facing.

 +
*Energy Saber: Press B to make Baleog swing his energy saber. It is a short-ranged attack for defeating enemies up-close.
 +
*Bionic Arm: Press C in conjunction with the D-Pad to make Baleog launch his bionic arm in the desired direction, which can take out enemies, hit targets, grab items, and grab hold of jewels. When grabbing on to a jewel, Baleog will swing from it as a means of crossing gaps. While swinging, press Left and Right to control the speed of Baleog's swing, and Up and Down to extend or retract his arm. To release his grip of the jewel, press C again.

 +
*Shield: Press B to raise or lower Olaf's shield. Like in the last game, holding the shield above his head allows him to glide to avoid hazards and fall damage, as well as give other characters a leg up.
 +
*Farting: Press C to make Olaf fart. This can be used to break unstable floors, as well as giving Olaf an extra lift while gliding.
 +
*Dwarfing: Press Down to make Olaf use his Titanium Dwarfing Shield to shrink to half his size. While small, he will not be able to defend himself or others, but can enter small passageways. Press Up to make him return to normal size.

The Lost Vikings 2: Norse by Norsewest (known often as just The Lost Vikings 2 or Norse by Norsewest) is the sequel to The Lost Vikings.

The game was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1997 without the subtitle, having been developed by Blizzard Entertainment (the studio formerly known as "Silicon and Synapse" who were responsible for the first game). Blizzard licensed the game to Beam Software who produced a set of "32-bit" versions for Windows PCs, the PlayStation and Sega Saturn later that year. All versions of the game were published by Interplay.

The game was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1997 without the subtitle, having been developed by Blizzard Entertainment (the studio formerly known as "Silicon and Synapse" who were responsible for the first game) in 1995, with the publisher Interplay keeping the game unreleased for two years. Blizzard licensed the game to Beam Software who produced a set of "32-bit" versions for IBM/Windows PCs, the PlayStation and Sega Saturn later that year, which were also published by Interplay.

Versions
The Saturn version acts merely as a graphical and audio update to the SNES version, the levels and gameplay being otherwise identical. Beam Software radically changed the design of The Lost Vikings 2, making heavy use of pre-rendered CGI graphics. The designs are controversial among some fans of the series. Features such the arms and legs of the models used do not animate during the cutscenes, leading to some strange looking results.

The Lost Vikings 2: Norse by Norsewest (known often as just The Lost Vikings II or Norse by Norsewest: The return of The Lost Vikings) is the sequel to The Lost Vikings, published by Interplay for a variety of platforms including the Sega Saturn.

    Story

    Gameplay

Gameplay is much the same as the previous title, however each of the Vikings now have some new moves thanks to parts obtained from a robot during the introduction. The player(s) takes it in turn to control each Viking, whose special skills must be used to ensure the others' safety. Levels typically have the Vikings collect a certain amount of items, which is then given to a character at the end of the stage in the hopes of being teleported to the time machine. The last level of each time period has the Vikings look for parts to the time machine to hopefully return to the Vikings' ship.

    Playable characters

    LostVikings2 Saturn Sprite Characters.png
    Erik the Swift
Erik remains as the most athletic of the three Vikings for scouting levels. His abilities are:
    • Jumping: Press B to make Erik jump. While in the air, press B again to activate his rocket boots for a double jump that can also break weak ceilings.
    • Headbutt: Press C while running to make Erik perform a rocket-propelled headbutt, inflicting damage to enemies and breaking down certain walls. The recoil will leave him unable to move for a few seconds, making him vulnerable to danger.
    • Swimming: Erik is the only character who can swim in water, thanks to his helmet. While in water, press B to make Erik swim in the direction he is facing.
    LostVikings2 Saturn Sprite Characters.png
    Baleog the Fierce
Baleog is the offensive specialist of the Vikings, and has traded his bow for a bionic arm. His abilities are:
    • Energy Saber: Press B to make Baleog swing his energy saber. It is a short-ranged attack for defeating enemies up-close.
    • Bionic Arm: Press C in conjunction with the D-Pad to make Baleog launch his bionic arm in the desired direction, which can take out enemies, hit targets, grab items, and grab hold of jewels. When grabbing on to a jewel, Baleog will swing from it as a means of crossing gaps. While swinging, press Left and Right to control the speed of Baleog's swing, and Up and Down to extend or retract his arm. To release his grip of the jewel, press C again.

    Olaf the Stout
Olaf reprises his role as the defensive specialist, carrying a shield to block attacks at the cost of having no offensive capabilities. His abilities are:
    • Shield: Press B to raise or lower Olaf's shield. Like in the last game, holding the shield above his head allows him to glide to avoid hazards and fall damage, as well as give other characters a leg up.
    • Farting: Press C to make Olaf fart. This can be used to break unstable floors, as well as giving Olaf an extra lift while gliding.
    • Dwarfing: Press Down to make Olaf use his Titanium Dwarfing Shield to shrink to half his size. While small, he will not be able to defend himself or others, but can enter small passageways. Press Up to make him return to normal size.

    Fang the Werewolf
One of the new characters introduced, Fang is found in Transylvania and befriended by Olaf to join the Vikings' cause. His abilities are:
    • Jumping: Press B to jump, just like Erik. If he jumps towards a wall, he will cling to it and slowly slide down it. Press B while clinging to a wall and he will jump off it. If two walls are close together, Fang can climb the walls by jumping back and forth between the two.
    • Claws: Press C to make Fang swipe his claws as a form of offense against enemies.

    Scorch the Dragon
The second new character, Scorch, is found in the Dark Ages and invited to come along with the Vikings. His abilities are:
    • Jumping: Press B to jump.
    • Flying: While in the air after a jump, press B again to make Scorch fly higher. However, he will get tired after pressing B many times and will be unable to fly any higher until he lands.
    • Gliding: While in the air, hold B to make Scorch glide using his wings, similar to Olaf.
    • Fire Breathing: Press C to make Scorch spit a fireball as a form of offense against enemies. When used in the air, he will glide for a little while to prevent fall damage.

    History

The 32-bit versions of The Lost Vikings 2: Norse by Norsewest also introduce voice acting to the series, as well as CD audio soundtrack (with completely different tunes to that in the SNES game).
