The following is a list of commonly-encountered References issues.
*Mindgame - Features a scene with hand-drawn Virtua Fighter animation.

*The Crimson Rivers - In this movie Cassel had a lengthy fight scene in it beating up several bad guys. And in the same area yet at a safe distance away from the fight was a boy playing VF3. The movie kept alternating between Cassel landing blows on real guys and the boy doing the same against his opponents on VF3.

*Hajime no Ippo - Volume 34, Chapter 298, Page 5 to 9 feature a Virtua Fighter reference.

*Sponsorships: Any officially-sponsored references, such as award shows or motorsports events, belong in Sponsorships.
*Houshin Engi - VF is also referenced in Chapter 1 of the manga Houshin Engi. The main character gets reprimanded by his teacher, who does Lion's f,f P+G on him. The artist goes as far as adding the sound effect "Iiin!" and adding the commands above the name of the move. This manga is from the 90's, so it would have been during the VF2 or 3 era.

*Recurring references: Any commonly-recurring references, such as a character in a television series, only need their first appearance listed. Ensure to note that said reference is a recurring one.
*Hayate the Combat Butler - In Volume 8, when the title character Hayate asked Nagi (his master) about how she trained her pet tiger Tama, this is her response: (image in ref)

*Multi-game shows: Any television series which cover numerous games by different companies, like GameCenter CX, only need their first reference covered. Ensure to list any future references in the same listing.
 +
*Hardware in Sonic references: If a reference features someone playing a Sonic game, and it shows them using hardware required to play the game (like a Control Pad (Mega Drive) or Game Gear), that reference doesn't need to be copied here as well.

*Super Robot Wars (games unknown) - Ryuusei Date, member of the SRX Team and pilot of the Personal Trooper R-1, has adapted some of Virtua Fighters Akira's lines in his battle phrases. :That's a really good question. One I had to research. And... I don't know, its hard to tell. On one hand, they're based on different fonts. On the other hand, the designer of the Mr. Robot font had to have known that a good majority of the audience is gonna see that logo and think "oh that's like the Sega logo." If anything, with the content of the show, it gives off less a Sega logo vibe and more.... a retro tech industry vibe? Maybe that's not the best way to describe it, but I think the design is referencing what the Sega logo was based on, more than the logo itself.

I also think it might be a good idea to copy parts of Template:InfoTable/Template:InfoRow - have a thumbnail we can actually see (on the left, so it's consistent with other pages), and have the tabs for multiple screenshots.

It would be a relatively simple template for me to make, but I want to get more people involved in template creation and maintenance, so there's some backup should I get run over by a bus tomorrow. References guide

The following is a list of commonly-encountered References issues.

 • Notability: Most published or aired references to Sega are included. However, particularly in the Internet category, we require a certain level of notability for new entries.
 • Sponsorships: Any officially-sponsored references, such as award shows or motorsports events, belong in Sponsorships.
 • Recurring references: Any commonly-recurring references, such as a character in a television series, only need their first appearance listed. Ensure to note that said reference is a recurring one.
 • Multi-game shows: Any television series which cover numerous games by different companies, like GameCenter CX, only need their first reference covered. Ensure to list any future references in the same listing.
 • Hardware in Sonic references: If a reference features someone playing a Sonic game, and it shows them using hardware required to play the game (like a Control Pad (Mega Drive) or Game Gear), that reference doesn't need to be copied here as well.

To do

 • Rename to Film, Television, and Web?
 • Make a distinction between References and Sponsorships (may need content migrated between articles)?
 • Limit entries by notability?

Mr. Robot

The logo uses same font as Sega. Is that qualify to this page? Geti3220 (talk) 14:02, 22 May 2024 (EDT)

That's a really good question.
So in this case, its probably not a Sega ref, but I'm not super sure :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 21:55, 23 May 2024 (EDT)

This task is unfinished
This is a wiki task that requires more thought or peer review. An important issue that needs to be solved, which will appear at the top of Sega Retro:Todo until this message is removed.

I think it might be worth splitting this into separate "film" and "television" pages, because turns out there's a lot of films and television shows.

but

I also think it might be a good idea to copy parts of Template:InfoTable/Template:InfoRow - have a thumbnail we can actually see (on the left, so it's consistent with other pages), and have the tabs for multiple screenshots.
