Poseidon Wars 3D is based on Sega's 1982 3-D VCO Object arcade game SubRoc-3D.

Gameplay
The game is played from a first-person perspective, requiring the player to shoot down a series of enemy vessels and helicopters.
While Poseidon Wars 3D is a single one player game, two functions are mapped to the second control pad; switches between 3D and 2D mode, while exits the current mission[4].

During development, the game was known under the working title of Submarine 3D.[5]
