1996 saw Sega officially discontinue the Sega Master System in Europe in order to concentrate on the Sega Saturn. The last licensed game to hit European store shelves was The Smurfs Travel the World. Tectoy continued to bring Master System games to Brazil, converting older Sega Game Gear games into Master System cartridges for the region.
