Metal Fang is an unreleased Mega-CD version of the racing game Metal Fangs. Originally developed for a Mega Drive release, JVC Musical Industries' planned to bring the game to the United States as one of the earliest launch games for the Sega CD.^[3] While featured at early trade events^[4], its release would eventually be pushed back to the middle of 1993^[1]^[2], with this version of the game eventually being cancelled altogether.

History

Development

Metal Fang was originally developed for the Mega Drive, and while completed around June 1992^[5], but was not released until December 1993. The delay appears to have been a result of plans by JVC Musical Industries (the American counterpart of Victor Musical Industries) to release the game as a launch title for the upcoming Sega CD.^[3] Such a release did not materialize, and while a potential release date was pushed back as far as May 1993^[2], development was eventually returned to the Mega Drive.^[3] Ultimately, the game would only be release on cartridge, and exclusively in Japan.^[6]

Prerelease

Metal Fang was on display at Sega of America's press event for the launch of Sega CD in October 1992.^[4]
