The company was established in 2000 by former Capcom and SNK employee Takashi Nishiyama, who had resigned from SNK following its acquisition by pachinko company Aruze. Nishiyama is most well known for creating Street Fighter while at Capcom as well as rival fighting game series Fatal Fury while at SNK. The company's initial staff mainly consisted of former Capcom and SNK employees, and it was formed using capital from Sega, Sony Computer Entertainment, Bandai Namco, and Sammy. It has developed games in the Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter franchises.
