Similar to the original ''[[The Typing of the Dead]]'' borrowing ideas from ''[[The House of the Dead 2]]'' and ''[[The Typing of the Dead 2]]'' being inspired by ''[[The House of the Dead III]]'', ''The Typing of the Dead: Overkill'' is presented in a similar style from ''[[The House of the Dead: Overkill]]''. It was the first new ''The Typing of the Dead'' game to be released in western territories since the original game in 1999.
