The following is a list of commonly-encountered References issues.
- Multi-character games: Games which feature multiple Sega characters in direct starring roles, such as Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Pinball Party, are not included, as are rhythm games like Samba de Amigo.
- Gameplay features: References to Sega products used during gameplay, such as the VMU's cameo appearance in Half-Life, are generally not included. If this information is notable, it can be included on the game's article.
- Inspiration and clones: Games which take inspiration from Sega products, and games which outright clone the gameplay of a Sega game, are included.
- References in Sonic games: References to Sega products included in Sonic the Hedgehog games are included.
