Select stage
On the title screen, press ++ START on controller two. This should cause a "select stage" option to appear in the middle of the game's title. Keep pressing this combination to change the level number between 1 and 7 (7 being the ending sequence).
Hidden introduction
During the Sega logo, holding on the second controller will cause a short animation to show. An angry Maria will stomp on a Super Famicom twice before the game begins as normal. This only occurs in the Japanese version of Battle Mania - the US version of Trouble Shooter has this feature removed because Sega sended a fax to VIC Tokai to not deface the competitors' trademarks.
