MicroProse, Inc. was an American video game developer and publisher which specialized in personal computer strategy simulation games, most notably the critically-acclaimed Civilization and X-COM series.
Company
MicroProse Software, Inc was founded by "Wild" Bill Stealey and Sid Meier in 1982. It later opened a UK branch, MicroProse, Ltd. (trading as MicroProse UK).
MicroProse Software merged with Spectrum HoloByte in December 1993[3], shortening its name to MicroProse, Inc., in the process. The two brands continuing to exist separately until 1997, where there Spectrum Holoybyte name was dropped in favour of MicroProse. MicroProse was then acquired by Hasbro Interactive in 1998[4], becoming a wholly owned subsidiary. The branding continued to be utilized until Hasbro Interactive was itself acquired by Infogrames in 2001.
The MicroProse name was seen again until 2018, where Australian entrepreneur David Lagettie, purchased the brand with the view of establishing a new MicroProse company to publish video games.
