R.C. Grand Prix is a Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear game developed by Absolute Entertainment and published by Sega.

The Game Gear version of the game was only released in North America.

Gameplay

R.C. Grand Prix is a racing game in which players controls radio-controlled buggies. Races are played against three other competitors and viewed from an overhead perspective. The game can be played by up to four players, who take turns completing each course in the fastest time. The order of play is based on the current standings in the game. Players are eliminated if they fail to place in the top three or finish before time runs out, and the game ends if every player is disqualified.

The game consists of a single large track broken into ten segments that are raced as individual tracks. Races are between two and five laps depending on the track. The final course is a large circuit around the entire track. In multiplayer games, there is also a drag race bonus stage played after the fifth track where players can race for bonus prize money. In the drag race, players try to race across a straight length of track as fast as possible without overheating the racer's motor. A meter on the bottom of the screen shows how hot the motor is getting. Since it is a bonus race, there is no penalty to losing or failing to complete a drag race.

The racer moves in any direction using the D-Pad and accelerates by holding 1 (and decelerates by releasing 1). There is no map of the track, but arrows appear on the ground to indicate upcoming bends.

Racers cannot crash, as running into obstacles or the other racers only slows it down.

Parts shop

Players are awarded with money after each race. In regular races, players receive $100 for first place, $50 for second place, $25 for third place, and $1 for every second left on the timer at the time of finish. In drag races, players receive $50 for winning. Money can be used to buy parts to improve the player's car, which is necessary to remain competitive in the later races.

Players are given the opportunity to enter the parts shop after completing a race if they have enough money to buy a part. In multiplayer games, there is only one of each part available in each shop (but all parts are replenished after each race). Players enter the shop in the order of the worst to best scoring player. Parts are available in the following categories:

Motor

Increases the speed of the racer. Faster motors drain the battery faster, so if a motor is not matched to similarly upgraded batteries, the racer can overextend itself and slow down in the middle of a race.
