The Sega Park in Harlow, United Kingdom was an indoor Sega Park video arcade that opened in December 1997. It was housed on the top floor of the Harvey Centre near the food court.
History and Layout
The venue was mostly lit dark, and housed many Video Games around it alongside other games like hockey tables, with a Sonic-themed carpet decorating the floor. There was also a dedicated area to redemption games, alongside a prize area.
After the Leisure Exchange buyout in 2000, the redemption games were replaced with Gambling and Slot Machines. This all led to Sega Park's downfall, as the place became a hangout for chavs and teen gangs, who would eye the venue and hassle customers for their money.
In February 2003, Leisure Exchange announced they wanted to relocate Sega Park to a shop unit occupied by Pizza Hut. Despite the plans being allowed by Harlow Council, it was criticised as an attempt to encourage children to gamble, due to the gambling machines housed in the venue. [2] The moving was revoked in the end, and the venue closed soon afterward later on in the year.
The arcade's former unit is now split into a Subway, a nail salon, and various other outlets.
Games
Games such as Plasma Sword, Star Wars Racer Arcade, Virtua Fighter 3, Bust-A-Move 4, Silent Scope, Crazy Taxi, Cyber Troopers - Virtual On, L.A. Machineguns, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and Motor Raid were housed at this venue.
