References guide
The following is a list of commonly-encountered References issues.
- Sonic referencing Sega: References to Sega products included in Sonic the Hedgehog games are included.
- Multi-character games: Games which feature multiple Sega characters in direct starring roles, such as Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Pinball Party, are not included, as are the songs in rhythm games like Samba de Amigo.
- Gameplay features: References to Sega products used during gameplay, such as the VMU's cameo appearance in Half-Life, are generally not included. If this information is notable, it can be included on the game's article.
- Inspiration and clones: Games which take direct inspiration from Sega products (like Animal Attack Gakuen), and games which outright clone the gameplay of a Sega game (Axel's Magic Hammer), are included. Games which only take a loose inspiration from a popular Sega game, like Galactic Storm, are not included in a proper entry, but are listed alongside other examples in the introductory paragraph.
- References in the same series: Games which contain music from previous entries in the franchise, like the inclusion of Thunder Force III tracks in Thunder Force IV, are not included.
