R&D Div. #2 (第二研究開発本部) was the research & development division of Sega Interactive, also known as SIC R&D2 (SIC第二研究開発本部)[1]. It is the direct successor to R&D2, and mostly operated with the same staff as before. Like the previous R&D2, it contained 2 development departments, one dedicated to arcade games, the second dedicated to console games. Despite not using the AM2 name since 2011, it still occasionally traded as AM2 and displayed the AM2 logo on some of its websites[2][3].

While it continued to support the arcade Border Break series, it eventually found a place on PlayStation 4. R&D2 had also created their last Shining Force update, Shining Force Cross Exlesia Zenith, a year prior to the founding of Sega Interactive. Instead, it focused on creating new games for arcades, mainly using established franchises created by other companies, similar to the Hatsune Miku property, which it had been working with since 2010, and KanColle Arcade, which began development at Sega R&D2[4], but wasn't released until a year after Sega Interactive was established. Its only legacy IP to continue arcade support was MJ, which received a reboot in Sega Net Mahjong MJ Arcade. The division's most notable new IP was Soul Reverse, which received both a mobile and arcade game.

After Sega Interactive was merged with Sega Games in 2020, it became the 5th Development Dept. #2, was part of the 5th Development Div. at Sega Asia & Japan Studio HQ[5] Either that year or the year after, R&D2 was effectively merged with Ryu ga Gotoku Studio.
