Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is a Sega Mega Drive game based on the 1992 film of the same name. While other games based on the movie exist for rival consoles, the Mega Drive version was developed in-house by Sega of America. A European version was planned[2], but failed to see release.

Story
The McCallister family is planning to spend their Christmas vacation in Miami. Their son Kevin once again becomes separated from his family and accidentally boards a plane to New York City instead of Miami, where he has another encounter with the Wet Bandits after their escape from prison.
Gameplay
The game is a platformer played as the resourceful and mischievous kid Kevin McCallister, who has found himself in New York City at Christmastime. In each level, Kevin must make it to the end while avoiding the Wet Bandits, Harry and Marv, who have recently escaped from prison and want revenge against Kevin for helping to put them there. Other enemies include harried travelers and airport workers, various animals, toys, and muggers.
Kevin runs with or . He jumps with and can jump down from some platforms with +. When running, he can slide with , which can pass under enemies. When standing, he ducks with . Kevin can push objects by holding and walking into them with or . He can interact with some other objects in stages with . He climbs ladders with and .
Kevin attacks with . He starts every level with a basic level, such as throwing baseballs or rocks, but he can assemble more advanced weapons by finding their parts within the level. These weapons can defeat enemies in fewer hits and stun the Wet Bandits for longer. Weapons can be fired lower with + or at an upwards angle with +.
Kevin has a health bar that drains as he takes damage from enemies and hazards. He is knocked back when he takes damage. He loses a life and must restart the level from the beginning if he runs out of health. The game ends if the player runs out of lives.
Harry and Marv appear in almost every level. They are knocked out if hit by a weapon but recover unless their health is fully drained (with special weapons knocking them out for longer). They have more health than other enemies, making them more difficult to defeat. If they get close to Kevin, they will strangle him, costing him health and breaking any special weapons he may have. Kevin can break free by quickly pressing , , or . Harry and Marv become smarter and faster in the later levels of the game.
Weapons
In each level, there are one or two improvised weapons that Kevin can construct by collecting items found in the environment. Each weapon consists of three parts. These weapons have unlimited ammunition, but they can be destroyed by the Wet Bandits.
