Every reviewer brings up its sequel status, and consider it an overall improvement with a better sense of speed, but with harsh difficulty and slightly different physics which can be off-putting. Game beginner girl 青山ようこ bemoans the lack of a playable Tails as compared to its 16-bit counterpart, but finds the various vehicles a thrill to ride.. Foreign game user OLIX光治 says the game might seem like a rehash of the previous game, but subtle changes to the physics can take some getting used to. Game mania group ハイローラーズ's 作 says the bosses are all well-made but severely punishing, and the jump and acceleration physics are unnatural, but concedes the programming is probably more refined. General game user ジャムおじさん especially finds the game too difficult due to running too fast and falling into pits, and wonders if the second half of the game is unfairly difficult.

The game is introduced as being sold on its "sense of speed" which has improved since the previous work. Co-op play like in the Mega Drive version is not possible, but the trade-off is a variety of vehicles, with 2 being shown in screenshots. In the Game Valuation, the writer explains that it follows its own story where you have to rescue your partner Tails, who unfortunately is not playable, but the inclusion of vehicles and other tricks make this forgivable. At first, they found the backgrounds extremely simple, but came to understand while playing that makes the on-screen action easier to read, perfect for a scrolling game. Their criticisms are of the screen being too small for the characters leading to poor visibility, and for some reason there is no continue feature for this very hard game. | |||||||||||||
