Gameplay

The game is an autoscrolling shoot-'em-up. The player commands the Orguss, which can swap between robot and starship modes freely, with each mode having advantages and disadvantages. The goal of each round is to make it to the Space/Time Oscillation Bomb at the end and destroy it before time runs out. The Orguss moves in any direction with the joystick. It shoots with 1 and switches between the two forms with 2. The Orguss can only have one shot out at a time, but the shot can penetrate through multiple targets. It has rapid-fire in robot form but not in starship form.

Orguss had the spiritual sequels TransBot for the Sega Master System in 1985, Transformer for the arcade in 1986, and Arrow Flash for the Sega Mega Drive in 1990.
