The game has a total of 5 stages. The first 4 are played with a randomly chosen Planeteer, the last stage is played with Captain Planet.

Game design is very basic in design, with hit detection issues and sometimes unavoidable enemy attacks.

The game is a platforming game based on the environmentalist superhero Captain Planet. It is mostly played as the Planeteers, who all have different powers. There are five stages, each played as a different Planeteer (determined randomly at the start of the game), containing different objectives, and ending with a boss fight against a different villain. The player can choose the order in which to play the first four stages from the "Eco-Alert" screen. Once all of the Planeteers have been rescued, they meet on Hope Island and call upon Captain Planet for the final showdown against Zarm.
 +

 +
The Planeteers walk with {{left}} or {{right}} and crawl with {{downleft}} or {{downright}}. They crouch with {{down}} and jump with {{C}}. They can hang off various rails and cables by jumping over them and move across them with {{left}} and {{right}} or jump off with {{down}}. Planeteers can shoot projectiles from their Eco-Power Rings. They fire a weak shot with {{A}} or a strong shot that covers a larger area with {{B}}. Shots can be directed at an angle with {{upleft}}, {{up}}, or {{upright}} and can also be fired while crouching or jumping. However, firing a shot costs planet power, which is limited and must be used sparingly. Planet power is depicted as an icon that depends on the Planeteer being played. The icon disintegrates as the planet power is used. When out of planet power, shots can only be fired at a very low rate (similar to ''[[Rolling Thunder 2]]'').
 +

 +
Every stage starts with four globes of energy. The globe slowly disintegrates as the Planeteer takes damage from an enemy or hazard. When it totally disappears, a full globe takes its place. If the Planeteer loses every globe, the player returns to the Eco-Alert screen and can replay the stage or choose another stage. Rather than having a limited amount of lives, the game has an overall time limit, starting at 60 minutes. The time remaining is shown on the Eco-Alert screen. Any remaining time is added to the total score at the end of the game. There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard).

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is a 1992 platformer for the Sega Mega Drive by Sega based on the Captain Planet and the Planeteers television series.

Story

Captain Planet and the Planeteers MD, Gaia.png

Captain Planet and the Planeteers MD, Hope Island.png

Gaia and Hope Island

Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, dismayed by the destruction of the planet by industrialization, created the Planeteers by sending five magic rings to five young people around the world: Kwame from Africa, with the power of Earth; Wheeler from North America, with the power of Fire; Linka from Europe, with the power of Wind; Gi from Asia, with the power of Water; and Ma-Ti from South America, with the power of Heart. When their powers are combined, they can summon the superhero Captain Planet.

The evil Zarm, who wants to destroy the Earth, has dispatched his minions and captured four of the five Planeteers. Gaia and Ma-Ti are imprisoned on Hope Island and must wait for the others to free themselves. When the Planeteers have reassembled, they can call forth Captain Planet to save the Earth.

Gameplay

Captain Planet and the Planeteers MD, Eco-Alert.png

Eco-Alert

The game is a platforming game based on the environmentalist superhero Captain Planet. It is mostly played as the Planeteers, who all have different powers. There are five stages, each played as a different Planeteer (determined randomly at the start of the game), containing different objectives, and ending with a boss fight against a different villain. The player can choose the order in which to play the first four stages from the "Eco-Alert" screen. Once all of the Planeteers have been rescued, they meet on Hope Island and call upon Captain Planet for the final showdown against Zarm.

The Planeteers walk with Left or Right and crawl with Down-left or Down-right. They crouch with Down and jump with C. They can hang off various rails and cables by jumping over them and move across them with Left and Right or jump off with Down. Planeteers can shoot projectiles from their Eco-Power Rings. They fire a weak shot with A or a strong shot that covers a larger area with B. Shots can be directed at an angle with Up-left, Up, or Up-right and can also be fired while crouching or jumping. However, firing a shot costs planet power, which is limited and must be used sparingly. Planet power is depicted as an icon that depends on the Planeteer being played. The icon disintegrates as the planet power is used. When out of planet power, shots can only be fired at a very low rate (similar to Rolling Thunder 2).

Items

Items are sometimes dropped when enemies are attacked or defeated or when stage objectives are completed.
