Brian Lara Cricket is a 1995 cricket game for the Sega Mega Drive by Audiogenic Software and Codemasters. Endorsed by professional cricket player Brian Lara, it was released for the Sega Mega Drive exclusively in Europe. It was followed by Brian Lara Cricket 96.

Gameplay

While Brian Lara Cricket was the first cricket game to be endorsed by Brian Lara, its game engine derives from the 1993 release of Graham Gooch World Class Cricket for the Amiga, Atari ST and IBM PC (itself a pseudo-sequel to 1985's Graham Gooch's Test Cricket).

With the exception of Brian Lara's likeness, the game lacks a license from any official cricket body, so uses fictional players.

History

Release

Brian Lara Cricket was a surprise success for Codemasters. While initial feedback from retail was that the game was unlikely to sell, 20,000 copies were manufactured by Codemasters' own plant during 1995[4]. The game was sold out within three days[5], with roughly 80,000 units produced overall[5] (only going out of print to make room for Brian Lara Cricket 96).
