Eliminate Down (エリミネートダウン) is a Sega Mega Drive horizontal shoot-'em-up developed by Aprinet and published by Soft Vision. It was first released in Japan in June 1993[2] and later brought to South Korea. It has developed a modern reputation as one of the most consistently expensive aftermarket Mega Drive games.

Story

Mankind has begun its space pioneering era as the 30th century is about to begin. However, an alien race known as the Amuleto appears out of a space distortion and travels toward the Earth. Its intentions prove hostile as human investigations are destroyed and the Amuleto space fleet grows. Mankind's best chance against the invaders is the Steel Pylon (スティールパイロン), a space fighter designed for multiple combat situations and warp drive jumping.

Gameplay

Mini-game

The game is a horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up similar to Toaplan's earlier Hellfire. Players command the Steel Pylon, which has three directional weapons at its disposal: a forward-firing blaster, a rear laser attack and diagonal, and four-way firing bombs. It is additionally equipped with a forward-firing main gun that fires in conjunction with the directional weapons. Stages have a mid-boss and a boss. The design of the stages often makes it necessary to choose the correct directional weapon to overcome obstacles or defeat enemies.

The Steel Pylon moves in any direction with the D-Pad. The player can adjust its movement speed by pausing the game with  START  and pressing Left or Right. It fires its weapons with B, which can be held for rapid-fire. The player can cycle through the three directional weapons with A or C (which both cycle the same way). All of the directional weapons and the main gun can be upgraded by collecting power-up items.

The Steel Pylon is destroyed in one hit, unless it is equipped with a barrier. It respawns in place if the player has extra lives remaining; otherwise, the game can be continued from the beginning of the current round. Losing a life costs the ship one directional weapon level and resets the main gun to its baseline. The player earns extra lives at certain points thresholds.

The Config menu has a target practice mini-game that presents a grid containing pictures of the Steel Pylon. When a picture starts spinning, the player must move the cursor with the D-Pad to select it and press A, B, or C to shoot it. The challenge is timed, and pictures spin for shorter durations as time runs out.
