DUKE message
Holding START along with the vulcan cannon and missile buttons, move the stick to the right and trigger the foot sensor while the game is in demo mode, and the text DUKE will appear. This is apparently a reference to Japanese manga series Golgo 13, whose main character is called Duke Togo.
The foot sensor is a safety feature that only exists in the super deluxe cabinet version of the game, meaning this is impossible to perform in the upright or standard sit-down versions of After Burner II.
(c) SEGA 1987 message
Press the cannon button () four times, the missile button () twice, and the cannon button once. The text (c) SEGA 1987 will briefly be displayed after inserting a coin and continuing the game.[1]
Unused developer message cheat
Present in the game's code is a routine which is meant to replace the (c) SEGA 1987 easter egg with three additional hidden messages from the development team. After performing that egg's respective cheat, pressing START on the continue screen is intended to select between messages. However, pressing START on the continue screen immediately ends the game, leaving the easter egg entirely unused.[2][1]
Mega Drive version
