Rock the Rock was an American video game tournament organized by Sega of America in promotion of upcoming release of Sonic & Knuckles.

Tournament

Sega of America executives Paul Rioux, Tom Kalinske, and Shinobu Toyoda dressed up as prisoners for the tournament.

Rock the Rock began with a one-night worldwide Sonic the Hedgehog 3 tournament, taking place in various Hard Rock Cafe restaurants around the globe. Winners were dressed in prison attire, had a briefcase handcuffed to their wrist, and were then drive to a nearby airport to be flown to San Francisco, California - the location of both Sega of America and the tournament grounds itself, Alcatraz Island.

The following day, the participants were ferried over to the island sometime in the early morning.
