Felix the Cat (Кот Феликс) is an unlicensed Mega Drive port of Hudson Soft's Famicom game of the same name, released exclusively in Russia around 2011. The developer is not credited anywhere in the game, but it is assumed to have been developed by BMB as it shares various aspects with games like Mario 3: Around the World and Mario 4: Space Odyssey, and is known to have been published by KDS.

Story

The plot remains the same from the NES game, and is explained on a single static screen before the game starts. The evil mad Professor has kidnapped Felix the Cat's girlfriend Kitty and is holding her hostage for a ransom, the ransom being Felix's magic bag. Left with no other choice, Felix sets out to defeat the Professor and rescue Kitty.

Gameplay

Gameplay aims to mimic the NES original as much as possible, but only features the most basic of platform mechanics. By default, the B button is used to make Felix jump while A is used to make Felix perform different attacks depending on his magic level, though the player can change this in the options menu. When Felix falls into the bottomless pit (past the bottom of the level), runs out of time, or loses all his health, he loses a life. Felix's movements are more stiff than the original game, and the physics are overall broken.

While the original game had nine worlds with three rounds each for a total of 27 levels, this port only features 12 of them, and all bosses are removed. All the sound effects and music tracks of the original version were replaced with the same playlist from other BMB-developed games with songs of different genres and origins, all played at random, including sound effects and a few tracks from UWOL: Quest for Money.

This port is known across the internet for featuring a notoriously gory Game Over screen which depicts Felix ripping his head apart, exposing his skull. This image is a colourised version of Kris Balerite's "Felix the Cat Unmasked"[1].
