Karting

1991 CIK-FIA World Karting Championship (Le Mans)[123][124][125][126]

In 1991 Sega sponsored[127][128][129][130] the 1991 CIK-FIA Championships[131][132], jointly organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (Automobile Club of the West, the largest automotive group in France), the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (French Federation of Automobile Sport), the Commission Internationale de Karting (the primary international sanctioning body for kart racing), the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (International Automobile Federation) and French advertising agency Agence Kangourou, which were held at the Circuit Alain Prost karting circuit[133][134] situated to the heart of Circuit de la Sarthe, in Le Mans, France from September 13 trough September 15, 1991[135][136][127][128][129][130] before an audience of 17.000[134] people attending the event.

To promote the brand, Sega France provided a shuttle dubbed Sega In Action[137], equipped with Mega Drive, Master System and Game Gear consoles with several video games which visitors could play at no charge.

French magazine Mega Force promoted[138][139][140] a quiz contest in August 1991 in which readers had to answer two questions on a bulletin published on the July/August issue of the magazine and mail it back to Mega Force magazine Editorial Board to have a chance to win up to twenty karting initiation internships, five invitations to the 1991 CIK-FIA World Karting Championship, thirty Sega sweatshirts and up to one hundred compact discs with the best Sega tunes.

Imporkart Trophy (1997-2004)

Formula Sega - Formula Dreamcast - Formula Zero/Sega

From 1997 to 2004 Sega sponsored the cadet category of the now defunct Imporkart Trophy [176][177][178][179], for years the most popular and prestigious kart racing event in Portugal after the Portuguese Karting Championship, held since 1994[180] at the Kartódromo de Baltar karting circuit in Baltar, Paredes, Portugal and jointly organized by the Portuguese Automobile and Karting Federation (FPAK - Federação Portuguesa de Automobilismo e Karting) the Motor Clube de Paredes (Motor Club of Paredes) and Imporkart (owner of the Kartódromo de Baltar karting circuit and former importer of kart related apparel and accessories). Dubbed "Formula Sega" in 1997 and 1998, "Formula Dreamcast" from 1999 to 2002 and "Formula Zero/Sega" in 2003 and 2004 it was open to younger ones, with ages between 8 and 14 years old (with or without experience in karting) which racing in 80cc karts rented for only 20.000$00 escudos (later 100 euros) could try their luck in the trophy and win Sega consoles and video games.

Drag racing

Anita Mäkelä (1992-1993)

In 1992[184][185][186][187] and 1993[184][188][186][187] Sega sponsored[189] Finnish professional drag racing driver Anita Mäkelä[190][191][192][193][194]. Over this period Anita developed a friendly rivalry with Swedish drag racing driver Tony Dönges of team Dönges Bros. Racing who was sponsored by Nintendo from 1990 to 1994 which in the eyes of the gaming world, it paved the way for an exciting and legendary meeting between Sega and Nintendo on the racing track[195][196].

Motorbike racing

Team Blue Fox (1993)

Sega sponsored Team Blue Fox, consisting of Japanese riders Norifumi "Norick" Abe and Kenichiro Iwahashi at the 1993 Zen Nihon Road Race (1993年全日本ロードレース) in the 500cc category. Abe would emerge as champion that year.

Norifumi Abe

Kenichiro Iwahashi

Team Sega Suzuki (1996)

As a cross promotion with Manx TT Super Bike, Sega sponsored the Suzuki team during the 1996 Isle of Man TT, taking place between the 27th May and 7th June[206]. "Team Sega Suzuki" entered two GSX-R750T bikes with custom Sega liveries[206], one driven by then four-times winner Jim Moodie[207] and the other by Shaun Harris.

The two bikes were aesthetically different, one red and white, and the other black with Sega (and Sega Saturn) logos. Both are unlockable in the Saturn port of Manx TT, as is the winning bike, the Honda RVF750 RC45.
