Gameplay
Like in the previous game, the characters only have regular kicks and punches at start, with the special moves and "katas" (sequences of moves) being unlocked after certain fights, following the game's "Belt System". But different of the previous game, all characters are available without the need of cheats, passwords or the like.
Playable Characters
This version introduces two new characters to the game: Chung Poe and Psycho Kitty.

Stages
In Brutal Unleashed: Above the Claw you go through fourteen stages in all (four more than the original game), facing all twelve characters, including a clone of yours. The scenery and graphics have been highly improved and changed drastically, although some of them are simply doubles with different palettes/shading. The most notable change was in Leon Prince's stage, on which it was possible to push the rival off the bridge for a instant win.
Like in the Mega Drive version of Brutal: Paws of Fury there are more stages than characters, making Tai Cheetah and Chung Poe appear to challenge you twice each. The characters were also placed at different stages than previously.
