Sexy Parodius (セクシーパロディウス) is an entry in the Parodius series of games.
Originally released in arcades, it is technically the fifth Parodius game, though only the third to see an arcade release. It is a sequel to Parodius Da!: Shinwa kara Owarai e (1990) and Gokujou Parodius!: Kako no Eikou o Motomete (1994), previously released together on Saturn as Parodius.

Gameplay
Sexy Parodius builds on the gameplay seen in Gokujou Parodius, the major difference being that each level now has a "mission", which if completed, will take the player on a different path through the game. The missions are technically optional (save for the first and last), and vary from shooting a certain number of enemies to collecting coins scattered around the stage.
Playable characters
Like Gokujou Parodius, Sexy Parodius offers a different cast of characters for player two, but aside from aesthetics, the power ups are the same.

The stars of Gradius, which have appeared in every Parodius game to date. The pair have the power up set of the original Gradius game.

Ivan/Toby | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Two penguins that replace series staple Pentarou, who originally appeared in Antarctic Adventure (and has been relegated to a non-playable secretarial role). Both were created specifically for this game and are based on rockhopper penguins.

Hikaru/Akane | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
From Gokujou Parodius!, two ladies dressed as rabbits, piloting large missiles.

Mambo/Samba | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
From Gokujou Parodius!, two giant fish meant to parody the MSX2 game Space Manbow.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Michael/Gabriel | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
From Gokujou Parodius!, two flying angel pigs.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Koitsu/Aitsu | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
From Gokujou Parodius!, little stick men who fly in paper planes.

Option/Multiple | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
In Gradius and Salamander (not to mention this game), Vic Viper and Lord British can collect "options" or "multiples" for extra fire power. In Sexy Parodius, the power ups have been given life and are playable in their own right. "Option" is a name Konami usually used in Gradius games while "multiple" sees use in Salamander.

Stages
Unlike its predecessors, Sexy Parodius has branching paths, determined by whether the players complete certain "missions". This means there are two stage 3s and two stage 4s, referred to in the official guide as "Stage 3'" (stage 3 dash) and "Stage 4'" (stage 4 dash).

At some point in the game, the players will be challenged by a handful of bosses from Parodius Da! and Gokujou Parodius. If a life is lost here, the regular game continues as normal. | |

The only bell to change from previous entries in the series, the white bell now summons a helper character, Alex, who wanders around the screen attacking enemies. Alex has limited HP and will disappear when it runs out. |
History
To date, Sexy Parodius is the last shoot-'em-up game in the Parodius. A strategy game spin-off, Paro Wars was released later. This game is often considered to be the best of the series. As the name suggests, the game is slightly more risqué in nature than previous titles, but still remains fairly tame, with no sexual scenes whatsoever. There was an English-language arcade version released in Asia, but none of the ports of this game were released outside of Japan.
