Crimewave (クライムウェーブ) is a Sega Saturn overhead free-roaming vehicular run and gun developed and published by Eidos Interactive in late 1996.

    Gameplay

The game has the player drive one of eight vehicles around a city destroying criminals. The city is split into sections, which can only be accessed when crime levels have fallen to a certain value.

    History

    Development

Crimewave was developed with the Sega Saturn in mind, simply because Sega Saturn development kits were cheaper at the time than those of the PlayStation[6].

Artist Joe Groombridge managed to sneak in "risqué artwork" in the red light districts in the game, as the publishers never noticed[6]. A Confederate flag on the top of a car was spotted, however, and was removed from the North American release in fear of offending customers[6].

The Japanese version supports the Arcade Racer and Mission Stick as there was an opportunity to develop the game further between Crimewave's Western and Japanese releases[6].
