Kaneko USA built their business on licensing popular characters.

Kaneko USA was established in 1990 to distribute Kaneko's games in the United States. However, following Ellen Fuog's acquisition of the license to the character of Chester Cheetah (mascot of Cheetos snacks), the branch was allowed to produce a game of their own. The resulting title, Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool‎, was a financial success, and as a result Kaneko USA was granted a new degree of autonomy when producing future titles for the American market.[2]
