Shigeyuki Iwase (岩瀬 成幸) is a former mechanical engineer at Sega Enterprises who specialized in engineering controllers.

Career

His earliest known work is from early 1992, when he patented a reciprocating actuator type steering device [1], a steering mechanism[2] and a taikan seat[3].

In August 1993 he collaborated with Yuji Ohzono[4] and Yuji Sugimori[5] to create different aspects of what is most likely the same control device. It may be used for Star Wars Arcade, released shortly thereafter and which contains some mentions of all 3 developers.

His first clear credit as a mechanical engineer came in 1994's Rail Chase 2. He designed the updated Magical Bench Seat[6] Iwase would continue to work on cabinets for Star Wars Arcade and Rail Chase 2 developer Sega AM3 in the future with Manx TT Super Bike, Gunblade NY, Sega Touring Car Championship, Dennou Senki Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram, Magical Truck Adventure and Crazy Taxi.

Despite this trend, Iwase still sometimes worked on other machines, such as a 1997 prize game with a route tracing feature[7].
