Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude!
From Sega Retro
"Surf Trip The Board Game"...
You all know newspapers.com (a.k.a. "greedy basterds") ... I saved news clippings as "press releases" before (OCR text)... but in this case the text gets really messy with all those news in that page and it's easy to get lost... if someone happens to find a copy of that page the better...--Asagoth (talk) 17:15, 12 September 2020 (EDT)
To Do
Fix YT link
Fix book reference
Aparently Ric Green lives out in Vegas and still has a pretty good attitude about the game. He popped into Retro Game City in east Vegas and extensively autographed-up a copy of Greendog. Seems like a nice guy tbh. CartridgeCulture (talk) 20:13, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- Wait... the guy is alive? Is there any record of that? Something that could prove it? --Asagoth (talk) 20:40, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- Not directly, but I did take some photographs of the autographed copy I got. I’ll have to either dig around for them or possibly upload them here, but he autographed both the front and the manual, with his name in multiple spots and with a short message to a fan named Adam. More importantly was my conversation with the game shop owner who I purchased it from. I knew when I first saw it I wanted to know where he got it. With Vegas being an ideal retirement destination to some folks, former devs included, there’s a lot of development material that gets floated around. Protos every now and then but especially ephemera from game development, and ESPECIALLY marketing. Vegas is where a lot of game-cover original art ends up for whatever reason too, but getting back on track. He states both Greendog and Adam are both Vegas natives, something heard from Adam when he sold it to said shop owner.
- Oh and I bought it CIB for $20. Even for the VG+ condition it was in, I was honestly bummed that the autographs ended up adding like $5 to the price, if even that :( This was maybe 2-3 years ago but still. Greendog gets no love. Should I upload the pictures here or host them elsewhere? CartridgeCulture (talk) 21:13, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- Sure, you can upload them here... I'm not saying that you are wrong but we will have to find something else to support it... you know how sceptical people can be... but it's a start... don't get me wrong but... I really want to believe that Ric is alive... was that woman at eyzmaster.blogspot.com lying? Is she an imposter? Was she telling the truth? ... I know that a discussion thread isn't always a good reference but... --Asagoth (talk) 21:36, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- No looks like I’m wrong here :p My bad, there must have been some miscommunication at some point as this story was passed from person to person. Thanks for pointing this out, I’ll upload thise pics now. CartridgeCulture (talk) 21:49, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- No worries... I was liking your side of the story... I wish he were still alive... he died too young... --Asagoth (talk) 22:10, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
- Confirmed... Ric passed away in the year 2000... Greendog: The Complete History by "Slop's Game Room" on youtube (from minute 13:26 onwards)... in the first comment a guy asked him where he got that information and he said that he asked the game's designer (Michael Latham, I presume...)... so that woman at eyzmaster.blogspot.com is indeed Ric's ex-wife Ana ... R.I.P. Beached Surfer Dude...--Asagoth (talk) 20:33, 25 March 2021 (EDT)
