Blaster Master 2 is a Sega Mega Drive action platform game developed by Software Creations and published by Sunsoft. Released exclusively in the United States in June 1993, the game is the sequel to the 1988 Sunsoft game Blaster Master, and was produced without involvement from the original developers.

Gameplay

For the most part, Blaster Master 2 borrows elements seen in the original Blaster Master, however, the on-foot sections now take place in a tank, and additional fighting game-like boss battle sections have been added.

History

Development

The Japanese branch of Sunsoft had, at this point, largely abandoned the Blaster Master franchise due to sluggish domestic sales. However, the game sold very well in North America, and so a Western-developed sequel was put into production. Sunsoft of America planned the game, with Software Creations handling the actual development; as such, the original Japanese team were initially unaware of the game's existence.

A Japanese version was nevertheless planned at one stage[4], but cancelled.

Release

The game was not manufactured in large numbers, and is now one of the more valuable Sega Mega Drive releases.
