International Superstar Soccer Deluxe (ISS Deluxe) is a football game released by Konami for the Sega Mega Drive in 1996. It is a sequel to International Superstar Soccer, a Super NES game originally released in late 1994, and the second in the long-running International Superstar Soccer series by Konami's Osaka division, which was eventually discontinued to give a bigger focus to the alternative Pro Evolution Soccer series by Konami's Tokyo division.

Gameplay
ISS Deluxe is an arcade-style football game played at an oblique viewing angle. The game lacks any sort of official licensing, so opts for 36 national teams comprised of fictional players (often loosely based on their real-life counterparts).

History
Legacy
As a late release in the console life cycle, happening when Konami had already discontinued all its internal Mega Drive developments in Japan, this conversion of ISS Deluxe was outsourced to German developer Factor 5. It was also targeted especifically for the European markets (later on, also for the Brazilian market), where association football is considered the main national sport.
The earlier Super NES version of ISS Deluxe is notorious in South America for being redistributed as localised ROM hacks, replacing the teams and players with those from Argentina, Colombia or Peru. This has happened to this Mega Drive version too, becoming the Brazilian branded Ronaldinho Soccer 98, despite the presence of a fully licensed retail version released in Brazil by TecToy.
Versions
The Mega Drive version of ISS Deluxe is largely identical to its Super NES counterpart, save for minor palette differences (and a checkerboarding effect to mask the lack of alpha transparency) and lower quality audio samples. No attempt was made to let the game run at a full 320x224 (or 320x240) resolution.
Unlike previous Mega Drive games handled by Chris Hülsbeck which relied on his own A.U.D.I.O.S. Wave Slave MD sound driver, for this title a custom music and sound effects player programmed by Factor 5 developer Willi Bäcker was used instead. [4]
