Types of Magic
Fire Magic
Blaze
Blaze is a fire element spell, which burns a target with bright flames. It’s learnt by default by every starting Mage in a force except for Shining Force II and Shining Force scenario III who have no such mage in the starting rooster but in both cases at least one character that joins later has it. The area of effect and range of the spell has been consistent through the games, but not the MP cost for later levels. It started as a 2-5-8-8 configuration in Shining Force, switching to a 2-6-10-10 for every game since then, and returned to the first configuration in Shining Force III. Blaze has several equipments that work as counterparts but the most important are the Black Ring and the Heat Axe, appearing in every single title of the series.
Other
Shining Force Gaiden II (Shining Force CD: Book 2)
- Katon is a three level fire element spell that is comparable to Blaze latter levels, in MP cost, power, area of effect and range. It’s exclusive to the character Higins.
- Apollo is a sorcerer spell that deals fire element damage.
- Katon is a three level fire element spell that is comparable to Blaze latter levels, in MP cost, power, area of effect and range. It’s exclusive to the character Slade.
- Inferno is a fire element spell, which shoots fire beams from above. It’s a learnt by the four heroes and Jane in scenario III but is amongst the data of the others, albeit very different in every category.
- Phoenix is a fire summon, which brings forth the legendary fire bird to deal fire element damage. It’s only obtainable by using the according special equipment, but some enemies have it innately, like Braff and Dessheren.
- Hell Dragon is a fire summon, which brings forth a fire dragon to deal fire element damage. It’s exclusive to two later scenarios and only obtainable by using the according special equipment.
- Penn is a fire summon, which brings forth the character Penn to deal fire damage. It’s a spell exclusive to the character Pendolf.
List of magic by title
- All names are from the english versions. The exceptions are Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict and exclusive items from scenario II and III of Shining Force III, where unnoficial translated names are given instead. If given, the game description for each item is in italics.

Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict
- None of the gaidens had an english release and none of them had sprites for items either.
Shining Force III
- Unlike past Shining games, close to every character that learns a spell will also learn all of its levels, with some odd exceptions and therefore there are no distinctions between levels like in the last lists. The exceptions are: Noon (Spark LV1-2), Arthur (Blaze LV1-3, Freeze LV1-3, Spark LV1-3) and Primula (Heal LV1-2).
- Synbios and Medion learn Inferno only when promoted to their third class, therefore only in scenario III. Arthur only upgrades his magic spells to LV3 on his third class as well. All other characters have a chance to learn everything in their second class, therefore in their respective scenarios.
- Inferno can be hacked into scenario I and II (the english description comes from I) though it has different sprite and values. Charm is also availble for hacking in Scenario I and it also has a different sprite. Enemy spells can also be hacked into the third scenario. Refer to the corresponding spell section above for more details.
