Passwords
In addition to the five passwords revealed in game, a number of others also affect the game. While all codes exist in both ROMs, some only function in the Japanese version:
Note that Ristar only checks the leftmost letters for codes, so if a code isn't six letters long, it does not matter what the remaining letters are set to. For example, the STAR code can be written as STARS or STARRY and have the same effect.
Invincibilty
Enter CANDY. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
True Sight
Enter MIEMIE. Will mark hidden items' grab points with a blue star.
Hyper mode
Enter FEEL. This is essentially the CANDY (invincibility), ILOVEU (round select) and MIEMIE (true sight) codes in one. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
No continue limit
Enter AAAAAA. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
Shooting star
Enter STAR. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
Show the Valdi system
Enter VALDI. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
Reverse the high score in demo mode
Enter HETAP. The high score will becomes the worst score at 9,999,900 points.
"Please wait for next story" text
Enter MASTER to reveal some text that may be hinting at a sequel. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
Show copyright information
Enter AGES.
Clear all passwords
Enter XXXXXX. This clears the effects of any previously entered passwords.
Change final boss stage palette to yellow
Enter MACCHA. This only works in the Japanese version of the game.
Mary Had a Little Lamb
If the player waits for one minute after throwing the final metronome to the final Umotomat in the first area of Planet Sonata before encountering the mini-boss, a rendition of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" will play.
Bonus jewel in Planet Sonata's mini-boss
If the mini-boss of Planet Sonata is defeated before the first wave of Chibis appear, an Umotomat will fly in from the right and drop a Yellow Jewel worth 10,000 points. As the bobbing heads move quickly in randomised patterns, this is incredibly difficult to do, though a player with quick-enough reflexes can land three hits on one of the heads during the mini-boss intro.
