Ground Zero Texas is a Sega Mega-CD game. It relies heavily on full-motion video.

A Japanese version was planned[8], but not released. It was removed from schedules between August[9] and September of 1995.[10]

Gameplay

Ground Zero Texas follows a similar format to Digital Pictures' previous titles Night Trap and Double Switch, in which the player moves between four stationary cameras in locations around a town. However, rather than simply pressing a button to activate traps, the player controls a crosshair and is tasked with shooting aliens disguised as humans, as well as attempting to avoid damage.

Unlike previous titles Ground Zero Texas has an element of randomisation as to where enemies will appear. The core structure of the game always plays out the same, however (lasting just under an hour in total).

There are also pseudo on-rails segments.

Despite the nature of the game, Ground Zero Texas does not support any form of light gun and so must be played with a traditional control pad.

History

Development

Shooting for Ground Zero Texas took roughly three weeks, with about 110 minutes of footage taken in total[11]. A set was constructed in the desert North of Los Angeles, with a final production bill costing over $3 million USD[11].
