The Apple TV is a digital media player and microconsole created by American technology company Apple. It runs tvOS, a derivative of the iOS smartphone operating system with a 10-foot user interface designed for televisions. Though originally released in 2007, the platform did not support third-party applications until the fourth generation hardware was released in 2015.
It supports pairing Bluetooth game controllers, including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch controllers. Software is built using similar tools and frameworks as iOS, including the Metal graphics API, and distributed through the same App Store. The platform is supported by Apple Arcade.
