Golden Axe Warrior is an 8-bit graphic RPG for the Sega Master System developed by Sega and released in 1991 exclusively in the US and Europe (as far as we know; please help!) . It is a spin off to Golden Axe. It is similar to The Legend of Zelda exept it revolves around the golden axe line. Death adder, a powerful ruler, has kidnapped a special crystal gaurdian. He has taken the golden axe and the nine crystals. Your task isn't merley to retrieve the nine crystals, however. Your task is to try and learn as much magic as possible, destroy all of Death adder's minions, and acces the final labyrinth containing Death Adder. Much like in any Phantasy Star RPG, you can save your game via certain buildings located at the start of the wilderness/labyrinth areas. You can buy shields, health, first aid kits, armour or pay someone to teach you magic. Money is earned when tasks are finished, or strong enemies are killed. You are the Golden Axe charachter Ax Battler, and your default weapon is a short range sword, and the sword can increase in range. Golden axe warrior features top-down RPG gameplay, with labyrinths that must be passed to gain the crystals, towns with various buildings and shops, and wilderness areas, where punching, sword slashing or arrow throwing (much like in Gain Ground) enemies need to be defeated to procced. Golden axe warrior has been accliamed as a nice and inventive Sega Master System game, thus it has been included along with the Master System Phantasy Star as an unlockable in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.
