Chakan is an action game by Extended Play (not to be confused with Extended Play Productions) and Sega for the Sega Mega Drive and by Sega for the Sega Game Gear based on a comic book series by "R.A.K. Graphics".
A Sega Mega-CD version was reportedly in development at one stage.

Story
Chakan is a warrior so proud of himself he challenged Death to a duel. He won, and was cursed with life eternal until he clears all the evil of the world.
Gameplay
/ jumps. / attacks. There is an overworld with four portals to worlds (levels) to clear; if you lose all your health in one, you get taken back here with no lives penalty (as there is no way to "lose all your lives" given the premise). Each port has somewhat different levels.
The game loops infinitely after the ending screen and the game ends in a way that does not provide closure, regardless of the chosen difficulty level.
