Sega Challenge 1990 is a contest held in the UK between November 1989 and March 1990. After 26 nationwide heats in which the competition game was Astro Warrior[3][4], the winners went through to four regional semi-finals in Birmingham, Swindon, Newcastle-Upon-tyne, and Milton Keynes[1][5]. The finals took place on 9 March 1990 at Gatwick Airport aboard a Virgin Atlantic 747. Four finalists played three Master System games: World Grand Prix, California Games and R-Type. The winner was Paul Fawson, and all finalists were treated to a four-day trip to New York.[6][7][8][2]
