The Sega Mega Drive version of Super Kick Off is a football game released exclusively in Europe and Brazil.

Unlike its 8-bit counterparts, the Mega Drive version of Super Kick Off is an entirely unique game for Sega's 16-bit console (though something similar also exists on the Super NES). While likely derived from the 1990 release of Kick Off 2 for home computers, it uses an entirely different set of graphics and is a much faster game than its predecessors.

    Gameplay

    Teams

Super Kick Off has no official licensing, so has to use teams named after their location, rather than their real life club names. There are three sets; one to represent top tier European clubs, another representing top tier English clubs, and a third to represent European national teams. None of these leagues are explicity named in-game, and not all modes are available to each team. The game does offer an extensive team editor mode, however, meaning the entire lineup can be changed by the user as he or she feels fit.

It also means that Manchester and Liverpool are represented twice.

    National teams

There are some slight inaccuracies with the national teams - the Netherlands is represented with Bulgaria's flag, and the C.I.S. uses the flag of the (then dissolved) Soviet Union.

    History

    Legacy

From a franchise perspective, Super Kick Off would be followed by the controversial Kick Off 3: European Challenge. However, Dino Dini, who had no involvement in Kick Off 3 would go on to form his own company and produce the Amiga/IBM PC game Goal!, which shares similar gameplay. Goal! also arrived on the Mega Drive, in the updated form of Dino Dini's Soccer.
