History
Development
Initial D Arcade Stage 4 was the first game in the series to be developed from the ground up by Sega AM3, after previous developer Sega Rosso was merged with AM3 predecessor Hitmaker in 2003. It innovated the series by switching up its online system to make both game quality and processing speed run more smoothly, patented by programmers Yoshihiro Sonoda (Cyber Troopers Virtual-On series, Air Trix), Katsunori Uchibori (Cyber Troopers Virtual-On series) and Daisuke Yamaura (Cardcaptor Sakura: Tomoyo no Video Daisakusen, Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3)[3], and it introduced a program for generating unique tire sounds calculated from the car's movement and load, patented by Kazuhiro Mori (NASCAR Arcade, Initial D series) and Yasuhiro Takagi (Shenmue series, Ghost Squad)[4].
