Richard Davant Stewart III^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11]^[12]^[13]^[14] was an American businessman and former Service Games key executive.

Personal life

Richard Stewart was born in El Paso, Texas on January 5, 1925 to Richard Davant Stewart Jr.^[6]^[15]^[16]^[17], a service station operator from Canutillo, Texas (son of Richard Davant Stewart Sr.^[18]^[19]^[20] and Anne Caroline Hardy Stewart, both of Tyler, Alabama), and Mary Vermillion Stewart,^[21]^[22]^[23]^[17] a schoolteacher (later Mary Vermillion Johnson^[24]^[25], daughter of Dr. Henry Franklin Vermillion,^[26]^[27]^[28]^[29]^[30] founder and first superintendent of the Southern Baptist Sanatorium^[31]^[32]^[33]^[34]^[35] of El Paso, Texas and Ida Kate Gray Vermillion^[36]^[37], both of Eastland, Texas) and his brothers were William Robert Stewart and Henry Vermillion Stewart, both of San Francisco, California and James Franklin Stewart^[1]^[2]^[38]^[39], a rancher from Kelowna^[40]^[41]^[42], British Columbia, Canada, who ran the Casorso^[43], Bulman and Chilco ranches under the business name of Kelowna Ranch, Inc.^[44] (incorporated on April 27, 1960^[45] as Kelowna Ranches, Ltd.^[46]^[47]^[48]^[49]), all descendants, through their father, of the Davant family^[50], a Huguenot family who emigrated from England to Georgia in the 1700s.

Richard Stewart married on June 19, 1949^[7]^[8]^[9]^[51]^[52] in Honolulu with Nannette "Nettie" Adele Gomes^[53]^[54], an usherette at the Waikiki Theatre (daughter of Jesse August Gomes, a United States Navy boatswain's mate at Pearl Harbor^[55]^[56] and Adele Caroline McKeague, both of Honolulu^[57]^[58]) and they had four children, namely Scott Kamana Stewart^[59] (born on July 23, 1951^[60]^[61]^[62] in Honolulu, Hawaii), Leslie Stewart (currently Leslie Balfour-Lynn^[63]^[64]^[65]^[66], born on August 16, 1953^[60]^[61]^[62] in Tokyo, Japan), Grant Meiji Stewart (born on October 3, 1957^[60]^[61]^[62] in Tokyo, Japan) and Ray Taisho Stewart^[53]^[54] (born on September 1, 1960^[60]^[61]^[62] in Tokyo, Japan).

Three of Richard Stewart's uncles, namely William Champneys Stewart IV^[67], Judson Dunaway Stewart^[67] and James Ogilvie Stewart Sr.^[67]^[68], were well known distributors of petroleum produtcs in El Paso County. William Champneys Stewart IV owned the Humble Oil & Refining Company^[67], Judson Dunaway Stewart owned the Service Oil Sales Company^[69] and James Ogilvie Stewart Sr. owned the J. O. Stewart Oil Company^[70]^[71]. His cousin, James Ogilvie Stewart Jr.^[72] (son of James Ogilvie Stewart Sr.) was the founder of El Paso-based waste management company International Environmental Industries known as El Paso Disposal^[73], acquired in 1999^[74] by Roseville-based company Waste Connections.
