2 Player X-Adapter is an adapter which allows an X-Arcade arcade stick to be connected to the Sega Dreamcast. This was one of several X-Arcade adapters released for consoles - others were produced for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and USB devices. A later 5-in-1 adapter incorporates many of these stand-alone console adapters into one unit.
As the name suggests, the idea is to connect the X-Arcade stick to two Dreamcast controller ports (as the original X-Arcade was built for two players). When connected to a Dreamcast, the bottom two buttons of the arcade stick are not used, and the modifier switches toggle the joystick between analogue and digital (i.e. it either reads information from the Dreamcast thumbstick or its D-Pad).
