The Sega Mega Drive, unlike any other Sega console and almost unique in the world of video gaming at large, has received numerous unofficial copies or "clones" of three of its official control pad options; the standard three-button Control Pad (SJ-3500/MK-1650), the first Six Button Control Pad (SJ-6000/MK-1653) and the Genesis 3's 6 Button Arcade Pad (MK-1470 - not to be confused with the other MK-1470).
While many have appeared as part of officially licensed consoles produced by other distributors (e.g. Tectoy and its later Brazil-only Mega Drive and Master System consoles), many more have been produced by third-parties as replacement controllers with only minor differences. Production of these accessories continues to this day, not just in markets where Sega does not actively seek to protect its copyrights and patents, but across major markets too, where they continue to be sold unopposed.
Though build quality and internals can vary considerably across these products, basic functionality and design is identical to the official Sega models, and thus have been aggregated in the lists below. Many of these products can likely be traced to the same source (i.e. a production line in China), but little is known about the process at present.
