Brutal: Paws of Fury is a fighting game released for the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD. In Germany, it is simply known as Paws of Fury.

An update to this game, Brutal Unleashed: Above the Claw was released for the Sega 32X.

    Gameplay

The player travels a fictional island to face opponents and learn new moves. Enemy order is fixed and identical for each character.

Brutal follows the basic formula laid out by Street Fighter II very closely. A, B and C are used for kicks in ascending strenght, while X, Y and Z are used for punches. When using a 3 button pad,  START  switches between kicks and punches.

Special attacks aren't available from the start and need to by learned during the game in training sessions. CPU opponents start with the full moveset. The game also incorporates RPG elements by using a password system to keep record of your character development. Further curiosities inclued the ability to change characters before a fight (pushing A on the versus screen) and being able to ring out your opponent in certain stages, as also seen in Virtua Fighter.

The game's CPU controlled opponents act extremly aggressive, making the single player mode focused on finding AI exploits
